It is amazing how a tragedy jolts a person to the core, birthing a sense of urgency and conviction to mentor and impact high school seniors before they graduate and leave home. That is what happened when Janice Barela heard a young lady, a high school graduate from her small, rural community, was attacked on a college campus. She knew she had to do something. She began by enlisting the help of local law enforcement to bring in a professional to train the senior girls in self-defense before they graduated. Ted Barela, Janice’s husband, shared her passion. Together, they expanded the RESPECT Program to a week-long program designed to safely transition high school seniors from their small, rural community to a large university setting or to an urban environment to work. This is accomplished during the testing week since seniors do not test. You can read more about the program on the RESPECT Program page.
After many years of the program, Ted and Janice co-founded Quality Generational Investments, Inc., a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Company. They desired to raise the quality of life for all generations, and they actively look for ways to give back and give forward. Together, with their amazing Board of Directors, they are finding ways to invest in all generations by partnering with local agencies, engaging community members and creating a culture of honor.
Quality Generational Investments, Inc.’s Mission Statement is to raise the quality of life for all generations by giving back and giving forward through education, prevention, mentoring, career development, arts and trades, safety, healthy living, recovery and connecting generations.
